“SHALL WE CONTINUE IN SIN? GOD FORBID!!!”
BISHOP SHERMAN J. BUTLER SR.
“What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?“
-Romans 6:1-2 (KJV)
SIN: “INIQUITY”, TRANSGRESSION, TRESPASS …
The Bible uses the terms “iniquity”, “transgression”, and “trespass”. These are levels of disobedience against GOD. The word teaches that “All unrighteousness is in” (1 John 5:17, KJV). Therefore, all disobedience is categorized as sin. Micah 2:1 (KJV) states, “Woe to them that devise iniquity, and work evil upon their beds! when the morning is light, they practise it, because it is in the power of their hand.” The term “iniquity” is associated with “a guilt worthy of punishment“. It is “planned and premeditated sin that escalates and gets out of control”. To elaborate, as Exodus 20:5 (KJV) notes, “visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;“, we now know this can be interpreted as “visiting the [“planned sin”] of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;“. BUT Exodus 20:6 (KJV), states, “ And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.“
CONTINUAL AND PREMEDITATED SIN:
We see how sin is referred to as “transgression” and “iniquity”, in Psalm 51:1-2 (KJV), how David prays, “Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.“ Again, we speak of “planned” or “premeditated” sins, when we talk of iniquities. There are sins that we have continued to do, over the years – at that point you are classified as a “Sinner”. Hebrews 10:26-27 (KJV) states, “For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.“
GOD IS NOT HAPPY WITH SIN:
We need to know that GOD IS NOT HAPPY WITH YOU, WHEN YOU ARE SINNING. When you KNOW something is a sin, such as, LYING, FORNICATION and ADULTERY, TAKING DRUGS, DRINKING ALCOHOL, defiling your body, etc. (Leviticus 10:9-10, Proverbs 20:1, Hosea 9:4,
1 Corinthians 6:9-10, 19-20, 1 Peter 5:8, Revelation 21:8). Even when you know that HOMOSEXUALITY is a sin (Leviticus 18:22, Leviticus 20:13, 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, Romans 1:26 – 32, KJV).
All unrighteousness is SIN! There are even sins of omission, in which GOD has commanded us to do something, and we do not.
YES! Lamentations 3:22 (KJV), states “It is of the Lord‘s mercies that we are not consumed,“
BUT! “Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?” (Romans 6:1, KJV).
